Nijmegen

The Nijmegen Marches in Holland is the world's largest annual walking event where walkers complete 40 kms/25 miles each day for 4 days. That is almost a marathon a day, along with up to 47,000 other walkers!  The event was originally established for the military in 1909 but now thousands of civilians take part, many year after year.

Early starts on the four days didn't deter thousands of supporters from being out to cheer us along.  Each day we met new friends and managed to bump in to some time and time again.  We marched along with British, Swedish, Belgian, Dutch and German military and a squad of British Bobbies!

We wore our Walk-the-Walk t-shirts with pride and our pink plumes too so we could see one another in the mass.  Spectators were bemused by the t-shirts but we informed as many as we could about our cause.

The walking was excellent, through beautiful countryside, bustling villages and towns where crowds thronged to encourage us with umpa bands and lots of clappint - a party from start to finish.

The challenge is there waiting for anyone, so go on, you know you want to.
